Tuesday is National K-9 Veterans’ Day, a day to celebrate the dogs who serve our country and protect our soldiers.

According to Military.com, “National K9 Veterans Day, March 13, is a day set aside to honor commemorate the service and sacrifices of American military and working dogs throughout history.”

The day marks the start of the Army’s program to train dogs called “K-9 Corps,” the first time dogs were used in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Tuesday is the day we recognize these four-legged heroes as valuable members of the military, and some are honored with retirement ceremonies, medals and memorial services.
