(WEAU) With graduation upon us, police in Eau Claire, Wisconsin are expecting college kids to leave their pets behind.

Shoua Vue is the Senior Community Service Officer with the Eau Claire Police Department.

He says they usually receive three to five calls a year from landlords about abandoned pets, which are mostly cats.

The Eau Claire County Humane Association says it also sees quieter animals like birds or reptiles being left behind.

Police say leaving an animal behind could cost you money and leave an abandonment charge on your record.
